About This Site
I've always been fascinated by two things
- history and cemeteries. As a life long Burlington County resident
and an amateur historian, I've spent many a day driving the back roads
of New Jersey, investigating and photographing the hundreds of small,
forgotten cemeteries that dot the rural countryside. Many of these
cemeteries have literally been swallowed by the surrounding native
New Jersey vegetation, as if Nature itself were erasing the evidence
of man's past from it's face, like a homeowner scrubbing some unwanted
markings or stains from his property. Overwhelmed by the sheer numbers
of forgotten graveyards and memorial parks, each with their own unique
and enthralling stories to tell, I decided to spend the last few years
concentrating on one small cemetery near a tiny town called Early's
Crossing. Named Ash Grove Park, this historic graveyard
has been unused for generations and is truly a hidden treasure of
New Jersey history. This is one person's attempt to document this
small slice of our history, a unique window into the lives and stories
of our past.
